Chapter 6

Holding the Line on Quality

The truth

Once your team is using AI tools well, a second risk shows up that nobody warned you about. The work moves faster. The quality starts to drift. The team stops checking the way they used to because the tool is usually right. Usually right is not a standard. It is the gap your competitors will eventually fall into.

This chapter belongs inside AI because the part about adopting tools is incomplete without the part about holding standards under them. Adoption is the first job. Stewardship is the longer one.

What success looks like

The team uses AI heavily and the quality of work going out of your business is the same or better than it was a year ago. Drift is caught at the source, not at the client. The standard is owned by named people, not by hope.

Start now

  1. Pick one workflow your team has automated with AI in the last 90 days. Pull the last ten outputs and read them line by line.
  2. Mark every output you would have flagged a year ago. The marks are the drift.
  3. Name one person who owns the quality bar for that workflow. Tell them. Put it in writing.
