Chapter 5

Keeping Your Edge

The truth

The tools are now good enough to do a respectable version of your thinking for you. That is the new risk. Use them without a structure and your judgment quietly atrophies. Your decisions still get made. They just stop being yours.

This chapter belongs inside Self because the part you cannot delegate, automate, or outsource is the founder's own ability to look at a situation and know what it actually needs. That capacity is built. It is also lost.

What success looks like

You use AI tools heavily and your own thinking gets sharper, not duller. The team can see when a decision came from you and when it came from a draft. You know which questions you will never let a tool answer for you, and why.

Start now

  1. List the three decisions you made this month that you would not want a tool to have made for you.
  2. Pick one task you have started outsourcing to AI without checking. Read the last output line by line and mark what you would have caught a year ago.
  3. Block 60 minutes this week with no tools, no phone, no inbox, and write the answer to one open question by hand.
